Piazza Gallery in Mt. Pleasant, SC, Features Works by Jo Tyree

Piazza Gallery Art & Framing in Mt. Pleasant, SC, will feature the original acrylic art of Jo Tyree of Ladson,SC, throughtout May 31, 2004.

In 1985, Tyree saw her second son's art work from his class in 10th grade. She thought "I can certainly do that, after all, he got his genes from me". She enrolled in a painting class and knew immediately that she wanted to continue painting.

Tyree's first goal was to have only original art in her home. Then, as people began seeing her work, they started to commission pieces. Her goals expanded as she realized that others also enjoyed her work.

Acrylic is her favorite medium. Inspiration comes from all around. Born and raised in Whiteville, NC, she finds that the beauty and history of the Lowcountry is very stimulating for her art. The ancient live oak trees with Spanish moss hanging from their boughs are saying to her, "paint me, paint me". The beautiful historic homes seem just to pose for her canvas.

Tyree's work has been exhibited in both North and South Carolina. Her paintings are in public and private collections throughout the Southeast. She is a member of the Charleston Artist Guild and she has won several awards during her career. Most recently, her Legare Street Welcome won first place in the Coastal Carolina Fair Adult Division.
