SOLO Art Gallery in Winston-Salem, NC, Features Works by Greg Osterhaus

Osterhaus at SOLO, an exhibition featuring recent oil paintings by GregOsterhaus, will open at SOLO Art Gallery in Winston-Salem, NC on May 1, 2004. Vividly colored Southern landscapes, still lifes, and cow portraits will be shown at the gallery through June 12, 2004.

As a young boy, Osterhaus discovered his interest in art and began to draw. He was encouraged in his artistic pursuits by his parents and one of his early teachers and was enrolled in private art classes. Osterhaus went on to college at Virginia Polytechnic Institute originally as a student of architecture, but eventually he focused on a career in graphic arts.

Born in Illinois, Osterhaus moved to Roanoke, VA, when he was twelve and he lives there still. He fell in love with the eloquent beauty of the rural South and has dedicated his career to capturing the glory of Southern landscapes in his expressive canvasses. With poetic application of color and careful understanding of light, his serene vistas are reminiscent of predecessors such as Robert Vonnoh, John Twachtman and Wolf Kahn.

Impressionistic in style, Osterhaus' landscapes invite the viewer in, but allow each one to interpret the scene based upon personal experiences. "Paintings are as much about the paint as they are about the subject matter," explains the artist.

Osterhaus has shown his paintings in solo and group exhibitions across the United States. His gallery representation includes a significant international presence with several galleries in the United Kingdom showcasing his work. His printed work has been used for many cultural events and fundraising campaigns including those of the Roanoke Symphony Orchestra and The West End Center for Youth.
