Greensboro, North Carolina: May 2, 2005 Ambleside Gallery in Greenville, NC, is pleased to announce an exhibition of works by one of China's foremost artists, Guan Weixing of Beijing, China, on view through May 31, 2005. Ambleside Gallery is hosting the artist's first ever visit to the United States, and stage his first one-man show in North America, comprising over 70 pieces of his original works of art.

The Chinese magazine, ART described Weixing's works as "a perfect combination of genius and technique". Leslie Worth, former President of the Royal Watercolor Society of England has noted that Weixing's "works are fresh and elegant. Every picture is a lyric poem".

Weixing's paintings are included in museum collections throughout China and in private collections throughout the world.

Of watercolor painting Weixing writes, "Watercolour has a unique attractiveness that strongly appeals to me. Its brilliant color and the seductive atmosphere created by the water always excite me. So I took up the challenge to do portrait and figure painting in watercolor, and I have never looked back."

Highly recognized for his paintings, Weixing has received the following honors, among others: Recipient of International Best Illustration Award in 1992, 1993 and 1994 for the novel "Stories of the Southern City"; Recipient of Gold Medal in the American Watercolor Exhibition for the painting "First Snow'; and watercolor painting "Friends" selected for the annual traveling exhibition of the International Watercolor Exhibition in USA.

Weixing is currently the Director of the China Fine Arts Association, Vice-President of the Chinese Watercolor Association and serves as Juror of national watercolor exhibitions throughout China.

The roots of Ambleside Gallery go back to 1982 when Ambleside Fine Arts was founded in Manchester England. Representing several of England's leading watercolorists, the company was responsible for the marketing and sales of their works throughout England and North America. Subsequently, the gallery was established in Grosse Pointe, MI, from 1994 until 2003. Ambleside Gallery relocated to Greensboro in June of 2004.
