SOLO Art Gallery in Winston-Salem, NC, Features Works by Wayne Epperly

Wayne Epperly: Recent Works, a solo exhibition featuring his recent oil paintings, will open at SOLO Art Gallery in Winston-Salem, NC, on May 3, 2005. Epperly is an exceptionally versatile artist and his paintings will include figurative work, landscapes and still lifes. His paintings will show at the gallery through June 11, 2005.

A North Carolina artist, Epperly studied painting at the Gloucester Academy of Fine Arts in Massachusetts. In the almost 25 years that he has been painting fine oils, he has also painted promotional work for seventeen NASCAR teams, designed fine textiles, and taught art at Alamance Community College. For the past six years, he has focused entirely on his fine art career. Epperly is especially fond of plein air work, where an artist works outdoors, painting directly from nature rather than from photographs. "It's addictive," Epperly said. "I can't stop painting. Everywhere I go, I'm looking for paintings." Location work can often test an artist's flexibility. "One of the most enjoyable times I've had was painting in Vermont in a snowstorm."

Epperly's work is frequently impressionistic, although he is also an accomplished realist. "My job as an artist is to show you something that you don't see," he said. "Maybe the cedar tree on my canvas isn't truly that green or that yellow, but painting it that way provokes an abstract thought and an immediate reaction from the viewer." Epperly strives to show how the many colors of any given landscape can blend together to create something beautiful.

The celebration of life is the foundation of Epperly's work and his artistic style illuminates strength and softness through the elaborate use of subtle earth tones, combined with pulsating colors. Epperly has exhibited in numerous national shows and his paintings hang in many private and corporate collections.
