Upstate Visual Arts in Greenville, SC, Features Works by High School Students

The Greenville High School Advanced Arts Students are pleased to announce their end of year show, "Seeing Red, Living in Purple," exhibited at the Upstate Visual Arts Gallery in Greenville, SC, from May 10-13, 2005. The exhibit, a review of the work done during the 2004-2005 academic year, features over 40 pieces of artwork by twenty Greenville High students. Some of the works will be for sale.

Featured artists include two seniors, Ben Marchbanks and Stephen Morse. Marchbanks, who has received a scholarship to attend Savannah College of Art and Design in the fall, will exhibit his piece, "Color." Stephen Morse's featured piece is titled "Under the Bridge" and is currently on display at the Fine Arts Center in its exhibit "Generation II." Both  students have had work displayed in numerous exhibits this year, including Artisphere's High School Exhibit and the Upstate Annual High School Exhibit at Greenville Tech.

Hilary Jernigan, the Fine Arts Department Head at Greenville High School and coordinator of the event, is thrilled that all of the students have this opportunity to exhibit with Upstate Visual Arts and have their work displayed for the public.

The exhibit's name is a tribute to the Greenville High "Red" Raider tradition that has nurtured and inspired these young artists, as well as a recognition of the wonderful "Purple" Parker High School legacy that Greenville High students embraced this year during our temporary relocation to this historic Greenville school. "Seeing Red, Living in Purple" t-shirts commemorating this event will be on sale with proceeds benefiting the GHS All Arts Booster Program.

Greenville High School is an academic magnet academy temporarily located at the Parker High School location at 900 Woodside Avenue, Greenville, while their historic 67-year old campus is being renovated.
