b.brown gallery in Matthews, NC, Features Works by Shane Somerset and Sandy Wilkinson

b.brown gallery in Matthews, NC, will present Impressionism meets Realism, an exhibit of original oil paintings by Shane Somerset and Sandy Wilkinson, on view from May 12 through June 15, 2007.

Shane Somerset discovered a talent for art while attending Providence Day School where he received numerous awards in painting, sculpting, and creative writing. The passion was rekindled several years ago under the tutelage of bonnie brown fergus and Connie Winters, both well known Charlotte artists and instructors. Today, Somerset is quickly growing into a first class American romanticist painter. Those who have watched his style and colors subtlety change will smile to find that his current choice of subject matter has a beautiful and endearing side.

While working as a registered nurse in the 70's, Sandy Wilkinson started painting "acrylics on acrylics," leading to many commissioned pieces. In the 80's, she set aside the art of painting for the art of writing and had three books published by Dodd Mead, Prentice Hall, and Pinnacle Books. She returned to painting in 2002. Her main intent is to get the viewer involved through whimsy and humor. Anything goes - from realistic portraits of animals to florals in fantasy environments.
