Turning Point Gallery in Chapel Hill, NC, Features Works by Wayne Salge

On May 11-13, 2007, Colorado sculptor Wayne Salge and his 43" unique bronze horse Estevan will be featured in a special three day show at Turning Point Gallery in Chapel Hill, NC.

Salge combines the two dimensional precision of a graphic artist with the flow of 3D sculpture opportunity and finishes it as a piece of art using the 2000 BC "lost wax" bronze casting method. Estevan along with over 16 other sculptures are included in this show.

Salge's successful career as a graphic designer and his creative expression through fine arts have resulted in works marked not only by the discipline and finish of the graphic arts, but with the originality and creative spirit of a contemporary fine artist in the discovery of new forms.

The freedom of expression made possible by working in three dimensions while his graphic arts career has been largely confined to the two dimensions has been a professional liberation which his works clearly reflect.

Salge creates both animal and human forms in limited and open edition bronzes and unique stone pieces. His sculptures are easily recognizable for their distinctive attitude and style: long thin lines balancing with full founded forms: sharp angles running into smooth planes and open spaces contrasting with solid surfaces.

The ancient "lost wax" process was first created with beeswax, encased in clay and cooked it in a fire till the clay hardened and the wax melted. The wax was "lost" and the space replaced with liquid metal (copper & tin), hence "lost wax" bronze casting.
