The Flood Gallery Fine Art Center in Asheville, NC, Features Works by Daniel Avazpour

The Flood Gallery Fine Art Center in Asheville, NC, is presenting an exhibition of works by Daniel Avazpour, on view through May 29, 2009.

Avazpour has a degree in Sculpture from the Pratt Institute in New York City and is new to Asheville. On display will be series of large charcoal and mixed media drawings, as well as paintings, sculpture and a video all of which express potent narratives.

Avazpour's work speaks to you. A sequence of triggers expose the dialogue communicated through an intuitive sensibility. In the drawing, Bad luck, you are my mirror, a simple geometric pattern develops the illusion of structure but the image seems to be falling out from under its self. "The chair only has one leg on it that isn't going to hold anybody up. I'm sitting too tight under a small table with the underwear hanging out the back of my pants. It is an honest portrayal of my condition, but it is only one chapter to this story," Avazpour says.

Avazpour describes his work as a visual free verse. "Focusing on an interior experience, a dialogue is extended to the viewer; these emotions are what make us living. Relying on our natural instincts to find understanding and order, the viewer recalls their perspective through the context. I work to capture this essence in my art; the universal quality of this language reveals itself as a visual free verse."

We can find "Love and War" in our daily lives however large or small. It seems it is an integral part to everything we do right now. We don't have to look hard to find the signs. It is echoed in our families and by live streaming news and mass media around the world. As you introduce yourself to the works in the show you build on the relationships and start to connect the dots. Avazpour asks, "With all our differences in a time when we struggle to clearly see into our future, is it our personal reflections that connect us revealing what makes us alive?"

Avazpour has worked with The Modern Art Museum of Forth Worth; Casa Ma'ana Theatre; Dallas Opera; and at the Venice Biennale. His work has been shown at the 500X Gallery in Dallas; The Metrognome Collective in Fort Worth; The Hammerstein Ballroom in Manhattan; and CP Artspace in Washington, DC. He has also shown in Baltimore, Kansas City and Chicago.
