Arts Council of Henderson County in Hendersonville, NC, Features Works by Asheville's River District Artists

The Arts Council of Henderson County will present the exhibit, River District Artists, a show featuring artists from Asheville's River Arts District. The exhibition will be on view in the Neill Gallery, in downtown Hendersonville, NC, from May 1 through June 20, 2009.

Asheville, NC's growing national reputation as one of the country's leading cultural centers has been noted by the New York Times when it described Asheville as "the Paris of the South." Given that description one can think of the River Arts District as Asheville's "Left Bank."

River District Artists (RDA) is the organization that represents many of the artists working within the River Arts District. According to Barbara Perez of Perez Art Studio and past president of RDA, "This is our first collective show anywhere outside the district."

"The Arts play an important role to reflect, collect, and celebrate our culture. They help us imagine. And it all begins in our
backyards," says Janice Lierz, Board President of the Asheville Area Arts Council, who adds, "Together with our neighboring creative partners we can shape artistic touchstones."

River District Artists is sponsored in part by the Times-News.

The Arts Council of Henderson County is a community organization that advocates for the arts and provides opportunities to enrich the lives of children and adults through the arts by offering exhibits, art education and performances. The Council is supported in part by the North Carolina Arts Council, the State of North Carolina, the Community Foundation of Henderson County, Henderson County, and the Henderson County Travel and Tourism Bureau.
