Lark & Key Gallery in Charlotte, NC, Features Works by Abby Glassenberg and Lindsay Rogers

Lark & Key Gallery and Boutique in Charlotte, NC, will present the exhibit, Earth & Air, featuring soft sculpture and assemblage by Abby Glassenberg and pottery by Lindsay Rogers, on view through May 31, 2009.

Glassenberg creates soft sculptures that are often part of a mixed media assemblage. A former teacher and current stay-at-home mom of two, she stumbled into her creative outlet while her children napped. Her sculptures begin with research and then sketches of what will ultimately become her sewing pattern.   Resourceful about supplies, Glassenberg swaps fabrics and notions with people from all over the world and repurposes old linens, cloth, fabrics and sheets found in thrift stores.

Although Glassenberg creates a variety of creatures her primary focus lately has been birds, including roosters and owls. She captures their beautiful and often whimsical nature with intricate detail and the unlikeliest of materials.

Lark & Key's featured potter for May is Lindsay Rogers. Her work is visually inspired by weathered wood, growing lines and general markings of time and movement. Physical inspiration comes from that which she tends with her hands but goes on to happen without her. In the end, she wishes for her pottery to possess the respect she feels for all the old objects she has come in contact with as well as the excitement she feels for the new and growing. Rogers currently works as a resident artist at the EnergyXchange in western North Carolina.
