Saluda, NC, Offers Annual Art & Music Festival - May 16, 2009

"Wow, I didn't know this was here!"  This is a common reaction from visitors who take Exit 59 off I-26 and drive into Saluda, NC, for the first time. It's a gem waiting to be discovered. This May, Saluda will hold its sixth annual Saluda Arts and Music Festival featuring more than 60 fine artists and craftspeople and a variety of music from regional talent. Don't just discover Saluda - mark your calendar and make it a destination on May 16, 2009 from 10am to 5pm.

Stroll along tree-lined historic Main Street and watch artists create works of art with a variety of demonstrations held during the day. Visit the Saluda Artists Exhibit located at the Saluda Senior Center for a spectacular display of local art work from more than 20 Saluda artists.

A special Children's Tent will exhibit artwork from Saluda School students. Children attending the festival can create their own works of art or musical instruments made from natural materials.

In addition to the visual art exhibits, festival goers can choose from a variety of music from well-known regional entertainers ranging from juggling artists to jazz to violinists. Four venues will stage the following musical artists starting at 10am.

The Saluda Arts and Music Festival is sponsored each year by the Saluda Business Association.  "Art and music talent thrive in Saluda and the festival gives us an opportunity to let this talent "shine" while boosting our tourist season," says Catherine Ross, president of the Saluda Business Association.

Nestled at the foot of the Blue Ridge Mountains, Saluda is a great place to visit for a day trip from Asheville, Hendersonville, or the Upstate, SC. Saluda abounds in natural assets for the whole family to enjoy and doesn't cost a penny. Enjoy its breathtaking views, waterfalls, hiking trails, game lands, and tubing or kayaking the Green River. Stroll down tree-lined streets or just do some "bench sitting" on Main Street that is on the National Registry of Historic Places. Shop the many distinctive shops some specializing in American Craft. Step back in time at the 100-year old general stores where you can still get a pack of nabs and quench your thirst with a soft drink in a glass bottle.

For information about the festival, lodging, directions, or parking, contact Catherine Ross at 828/243-8696 or visit (www.saluda.com).
