RIVERWORKS Gallery in Greenville, SC, Features Works by Enid Williams

RIVERWORKS Gallery in Greenville, SC, is presenting Random Methodologies, featuring the most recent paintings by Enid Williams, on view through June 2, 2013. A reception will be held on May 3, from 6-9pm.

According to Williams these newest works are “best described as resting between physical presence and visual occurrence.” The paintings simultaneously animate and sooth, heighten and undermine the viewer’s expectation of logic and order. Small circular shapes present layers of color reminiscent of Abstract Expressionism but on close inspection reveal intricate, fully realized, individual forms that exist in a silent white void, functioning as both matrix and backdrop for the intersection of Williams’ marks. These forms both obscure and reveal culminating in a visually complex tableau intended to slow the viewer’s gaze.

In the spring of 2012, Williams was awarded the prestigious Pollock Krasner Foundation grant. This grant was established by Lee Krasner, an influential and accomplished Abstract Expressionist and widow of Jackson Pollock to provide funding for accomplished artists. Williams admits, “It reinforces the validity and credibility of what I do. I know how competitive the process is. It is wonderful to have my work considered and chosen among nationally and internationally recognized artists, especially at this point in my career.” Williams is an Associate Professor of Art at Greenville Technical College.

RIVERWORKS Gallery is operated by and for the faculty and students of the Department of Visual and Performing Arts at Greenville Technical College. The gallery is located on River Street, Suite 202, along the scenic Reedy River in downtown Greenville.
