New Landscape Traditions at Somerhill Gallery in Chapel Hill, NC

Somerhill Gallery in Chapel Hill, NC, is hosting an exhibit introducing five new landscape artists. The artists participating in this exhibit include Howard Petote, Suzanne Howes-Stevens, J. Chris Wilson, Kevin Beck, and Rebecca Beeston. Each of these artists approaches the classic tradition of the landscape in their own unique manner and style.The exhibit will be on view through June 20.

Howard Petote

Howard Petote explores the landscape through vivid colors and painterly compositions. His work has appeared in several publications including Southern Accents magazine. Born in Albion, New York, Howard Petote is now a Durham resident.

Suzanne Howes-Stevens

By attaching maps and charts to panels before applying layers of oil paint, Suzanne Howes-Stevens provides us with truly unique views in her landscape paintings. Howes-Stevens, a Connecticut resident, earned her BFA from the Massachusetts College of Art and received her MA from the Hartford Art School.

J. Chris Wilson

Born in Waycross, Georgia, J. Chris Wilson now lives in Rocky Mount, NC. His paintings invoke thought and reflection with their serene subject matter. Chris Wilson received his BA at Valdosta State University and his MFA at the University of Georgia.

Kevin Beck

Through his obvious appreciation of nature and his brilliant use of color, Kevin Beck's pastels come to life. Kevin received his BS from Bowling Green University and lives in Blowing Rock, NC.

Rebecca Beeston

By incorporating precise attention to detail with soft pastels, Rebecca Beeston creates inviting images that viewers automatically respond to. Beeston received a Masters in Studio Art from the University of South Carolina and she is a Chapel Hill resident.

This will be the first feature exhibit at Somerhill Gallery for all five of these artists.
