Palm Key near Ridgeland, SC, Offers Several Workshops

Palm Key The Nature Getaway retreat, located on Knowles Island, just outside of Ridgeland, SC, is offering several art workshops in June.

On June 16-20, 2003 - Portrait and Landscape Drawing and Painting Workshop - Explore composition, design, drawing, color, values and all or the other aspects that make a good painting while being introduced to famous watercolor artists. Learn from a teacher, Al Stine that is, noted for his devotion to the individual's learning process.

Stine was a former illustrator working in Chicago. "I was an illustrator working in Chicago. One day, I received a call and was asked if I did cartoons. The caller was Hugh Hefner and he was starting a magazine called "Playboy". That was in 1953," said Stine.

During the workshop Palm Key will host a special exhibition of nostalgic, original "Playboy" cartoons and illustrations done by Stine from June 15 - 20.

On June 23 - 27, 2003 - Great Starts and Great Finishes Painting Workshop- If you want to work more abstractly, want to get better, or are just plain stuck, this workshop is for you! Through daily demonstrations, design projects and discussions, Pat Dews teaches her students how to learn to think and see in new and exciting ways. Beginning to advanced painters, working in either an abstract or realistic manner, will benefit from this approach.
