City of North Charleston in North Charleston, SC, Features Works by Elizabeth Gaines McKeever and Walter W. Smith, III

The City of North Charleston's Cultural Arts Department is pleased to announce that the works of two South Carolina artists will be on display at the North Charleston City Gallery, in North Charleston, SC, from June 1 - 30, 2005. Walter W. Smith, III, will display photographic digital collages in an exhibit entitled, Digital Scapes, and an exhibit of oil paintings entitled, Lowcountry People, Places, Things, will feature works by Elizabeth Gaines McKeever.

McKeever graduated Magna Cum Laude from Savannah College of Art and Design, with an MFA in Painting & Drawing. She is an award winning artist, art instructor, local businesswoman, and lecturers with the Gibbes Museum of Art. Her works are included in private and public collections here in the United States and in Italy.

Upon reflection of the upcoming exhibit, McKeever states, "These paintings are in response to the world around me, and the reason I have come to call Charleston home".

Walter W. Smith, III currently resides in Gray Court, SC. Educated at the Philadelphia College of Art, majoring in fine arts, Smith has produced insightful portraiture and programmatic images on social and psychological themes. These have been widely exhibited and included in multi-media performances.

Smith has served as an advisor and instructor in computer graphics at the Brandywine Workshop Visual Technology Center in Philadelphia. He will display photographic digital collages in the exhibition.

The Cultural Arts Program is the recipient of the 2000 Elizabeth O'Neill Verner Award for the Arts and receives support from the National Endowment for the Arts, SC Arts Commission, the US Department of HUD, and the corporate community.
