WICKWIRE in Hendersonville, NC, Offers Works by Jane Todd Butcher

WICKWIRE fine art/folk art in Hendersonville, NC, will present an exhibit of works by Jane Todd Butcher, on view from June 6 - 8, 2008.

Butcher, BFA, SCWS, GWS, creates textures and interesting surfaces in her paintings utilizing a combination of water-based mediums including acrylic paint and acrylic inks, and often incorporates the use of rice papers and other papers. "My art is part memory, part impression from a lifetime of enjoying the outdoors. I'm especially interested in conveying the many moods of nature and the importance of conserving our forests and natural resources. Sometimes the surface itself suggests a composition and leads me as I develop the painting," says Butcher.

Butcher is originally from the Midwest, but has adopted the Carolinas as her home for most of her life. The richness and variety of the Carolina landscapes from the mountains to the coast continues to provide the source for her art. She received a BA in Art from Illinois State University, and has earned signature membership in the South Carolina Watermedia Society and the Georgia Watercolor Society. Butcher teaches workshops in water media and mixed media painting. Her work has received awards throughout the Southeast, and is included in numerous corporate and private collections.
