Providence Gallery in Charlotte, NC, Features Exhibition of Figurative Paintings

Providence Gallery in Charlotte, NC, proudly presents Human Touch, an exhibition of new works by Harriet Goode and other select gallery artists including, Lesley Powell, Fred Sprock, Diane Virkler and Rod Wimer. The exhibition will be on display from June 3 - 30, 2009.

Harriet Goode likens the canvas of each of her paintings to "a stage where I produce little dramas or short stories." Goode purposely creates figures that are vague and mysterious. The artist explains that she does this in order to encourage viewers to finish each story for themselves, adding details from their own life experience. Goode's wonderfully expressive figurative paintings of women have won top awards in juried competitions across the country for over two decades. She has received many distinguished honors and awards in recognition of her work including: The Medal of Honor in the Arts, presented by Winthrop University; Career Achievement Award, bestowed by Converse College; Keepers of the Culture Award, presented by the Museum of York County and an Honorary BFA degree from Winthrop University.

With the addition of paintings by Lesley Powell, Fred Sprock, Diane Virkler and Rod Wimer, this show brings together artists with very different palettes and painting styles. The result is an exhibition that offers something for everyone. From traditional landscape and still life vignettes to contemporary urban cityscapes, these diverse compositions capture a range of tone and mood, from quiet moments of personal introspection and contemplation to the day-to-day human interaction on rushed and crowded city streets.
