Western Carolina University in Cullowhee, NC, Features Works by Craft School Students

Ellen van Mansvelt ----------------------------------------- Maureen Moxley

Work by recent graduates of Haywood Community College's professional craft program will be on exhibit through July 25, 2009, at the Fine Art Museum at Western Carolina University in Cullowhee, NC.

The exhibit features more than 60 works including furniture, woodwork, ceramics, jewelry and textiles. The exhibit is juried and marks the professional debut for many of the artists. Many of the pieces will be for sale.

HCC's professional craft program is a two-year commitment and prepares its students to become independent craft professionals. In addition to sharpening their technical and artistic skills, they create marketable lines of work, learn promotions and installation, prepare portfolios, plan studios and create business plans.

The exhibit is one of many cultural experiences that Western Carolina will offer the community this summer. For a schedule, go online to (www.events.wcu.edu).

For further information check our NC Institutional Gallery listings, call the museum at 828/227-3591 or visit (www.fineartmuseum.wcu.edu).
