Spartanburg Art Museum in Spartanburg, SC, Offers Works by Members of Southern Exposure

The Spartanburg Art Museum in Spartanburg, SC, is presenting works by the Southern Exposure Artist Cooperative that reflect how they have grown and evolved over the past thirty years both as a group and as individuals. The exhibit will be on view through June 26, 2010.

In addition to showing recent works, the artists have selected one piece for the exhibit that identifies a turning point in their career when they noticed a shift in their technique, palette, or style. For some of the artists their use of the formal elements of design has remained consistent while it has been changes in expression, inspiration, or subject matter which has found its way into their work. By placing older and newer works side by side, the impact of life's experiences on the work of these individuals is most noticeable.

The group's collective talent embraces numerous disciplines including ceramics, collage, drawing, jewelry, mixed-media, painting in oil, acrylic, and watercolor, photography, printmaking, sculpture, stained glass, and textiles. Members of Southern Exposure have exhibited in numerous museums, galleries, and universities throughout the United States.

Members include: Carol Augthun, Jessica Barnes, David Benson, Amy Goldstein-Rice, Claire Miller Hopkins, Linda Hudgins, Cynthia Link, Mark Olencki, Sara Dame Setzer, Doris Turner, Ann Wenz, and David Zacharias.
