July Issue 2000

Past, Present and Future of Henderson County Showcased at Wickwire Gallery, in Hendersonville, NC

In July a very special event will occur in Hendersonville, NC, as artists from Western North Carolina will exhibit their paintings reflecting the beauty and character of Henderson County, past, present and future. Joanie Fisher, publisher of the wonderful yearly magazine, Hendersonville Magazine, came up with the idea for this show. Now in its 19th year, and distributed to 30,000 people yearly, the magazine has helped promote the arts community. Wickwire fine art/folk art gallery has co-sponsored the event with Fisher, to be held at the gallery from July 14 - Aug. 19, 2000.

Even the Henderson County Arts Council is in on the fun, and will award prizes at the opening on July 14 in the amount of $500 to encourage the artists.

"Some interesting works have been entered in the show," says Shirley Palmer-Hill, co-owner of the Wickwire Gallery. "We have quite a range, everything from apple orchards to mountain scenes, and a large montage of landmark buildings in Hendersonville was submitted by one artist."

Robert Tynes, an Associate Professor of Arts and Director of the University Gallery at UNC-Asheville, is a juror, along with Beth Engel, an artist/designer who owns Mezzaluna Studio in Hendersonville, and gallery co-owner Barbara Wickwire.
