ElderArt Gallery in Charlotte, NC, Present Works by Patrick Glover

ElderArt Gallery in Charlotte, NC, will present an exhibition entitled, Thinking on Canvas, featuring works by New York City artist Patrick Glover. The show will be on view from July 19 through Aug. 17, 2002.

Thinking on Canvas will include recent paintings done by Glover. His work has been greatly influenced by growing up and coming of age in New York City. "Patrick's work reflects his feelings regarding the affect of media upon American society," said Larry Elder, owner of ElderArt Gallery. "His work has a certain edginess to it and is unlike any being shown in our region."

Featured in the show will be "unconventional still lifes" that depict objects and scenes from the contemporary American home. In addition, Glover will present a number of large oil paintings on canvas that are done in a collage-like style. His paintings are thought-provoking and are masterfully painted. The viewer can ponder a variety of objects in his paintings that are not immediately recognizable until after considerable thought is given. His work is captivating and intriguing.

Glover's work has appeared on the cover of Country Living magazine as well as in an article in Architectural Digest. He is a graduate of The Cooper Union for the Advancement of Science and Art, having earned a BFA with major emphasis in painting. Glover has studied with a number of nationally known artists including Gerhard Richter, Hans Haacke, Sue Ferguson Gussow, Deborah Remmington, Nicholas Marsicano, and Irving Petlin. Some of his clients have included the Kaliph of Saudi Arabia, Vincente Wolf, Speath Design, The Becker Group, Michael Braverman Design, John Buscarello, movie actor Judd Hirsch and Sterling Sound Studios.

Slides of Glover's work are on file at the Artists Space Gallery and White Columns in Manhattan, The Rotunda Gallery in Brooklyn Heights and online at Renee Fotouhi Fine Art and Goliath Visual Space. His work has been included in projects with the New York MTA "Arts for Transit" program.

Of his work, Glover states, "Artwork is successful if any viewer, regardless of their background or experience, is drawn to it and can have a multi-level interaction with it. Whether that viewer is drawn to the literal images themselves, color, composition, concept, technique, experience or even because of a sense of annoyance or perplexity, my goal is to engage the widest possible viewing audience. I do not believe that good art needs to be esoteric or unapproachable, pretty or shocking. I do believe it should be engaging."

"Most gallery owners fantasize about finding a young artist who has potential for becoming a significant contributor to the American art scene," said Elder. "I feel that Patrick has the talent to make such a contribution."
