Hidell Brooks Gallery in Charlotte, NC, Presents Works by Barbara Fisher

Hidell Brooks Gallery in Charlotte, NC, is pleased to announce their first solo exhibition for Barbara Fisher. Fisher's solo exhibition will run through Aug. 31, 2002.

Fisher's current body of work reflects her ongoing exploration of the visual and the psychic tension. New and recurrent elements from her personal visual vocabulary interact within the spatial structures or what she call her "compartments". Based on an almost grid-like structure, she creates many small paintings within one large cohesive painting.

Fisher's laborious layering process involves a marriage of serendipity and intention, as underlying collage elements and surface textures help to define the elements and forms that inhabit the individual sections. Fisher's "compartments" are comprised of imagery such as vessels, houses, boxes, twisted ladders, pocketbooks, and landscapes interacting together to create one picture plane. However, the relationships between these objects are often as mysterious as the spaces they cohabit, and the result is a new, harmonious and more complex reality.
