July Issue 2004

Asheville Gallery of Art in Asheville, NC, Features Works by Robert Mahosky.

Robert Mahosky will be the Artist-of-the-Month for July 2004 at the Asheville Gallery of Art in Asheville, NC.

Mahosky, a television videographer, paints a range of subjects, but it is faces of people he has captured on assignments that are his resource, the well of his material.

An assignment in Rwanda in 1995, after the massacre, made a lasting impression, especially the faces of the children. Mahosky explains, "I still paint those faces. Probably, I will always paint them. I have never been that overcome. But how could you not be. The facets I use in painting the faces come from the planes and angles, the light and shadow seen through the lens of the camera. The drawing is more important to me than the color".
