Charleston Artist Guild in Charleston, SC, Offers Works by Tony Young in Guild Gallery

The Charleston Artist Guild presents Shades of the Past, featuring works by Goose Creek, SC, artist Tony Young. The show opens at the Charleston Artist Guild Gallery in Charleston, SC on July 13 and continues through Aug. 12, 2004.

Young refers to watercolor as his favorite medium, although he occasionally uses acrylic paints as a change of pace in presenting his subject matter. His subjects are predominantly architectural and landscape scenes with emphasis on texture and the effects of light. Rarely contrived, the paintings are representative of places visited. Young expresses his goal in the presentation of his subjects as follows, "I seek to entertain you, the viewer. If you feel what I felt when I painted the picture, then I am successful!"

Young was born near Greenwood, SC, and graduated from Clemson University. After a career in manufacturing and retail management, he returned to his first love, art. Primarily self-taught, he has studied with such nationally known artists as Tom Lynch and Charleston artist Charles Parnelle.

Young is a frequent exhibitor in regional art shows and has promoted his work on television. One of his more interesting endeavors was teaching painting to inmates in a correctional facility. His paintings are in many private collections throughout the United States.
