City Gallery at Dock Street Theatre in Charleston, SC, Offers Works by Anita Hepburn

In Charleston, SC, the City Gallery at the Dock Street Theatre will present an exhibit of charcoal on paper by Anita Hepburn, from July 21 through Aug. 17, 2004, entitled Traveling through Light.

Hepburn was born in Budapest, Hungary. After visiting Charleston with her family, she decided to move to Charleston. Three years ago she started to take drawing classes at the College of Charleston. After countless hours of commitment and support from her teacher, she won numerous awards, including the College of Charleston President's Award for a black and white drawings in 2003. Most recently, her pastels were included in the College of Charleston's traveling exhibition to Greenville, SC. She lives with her supportive husband and children in Mt. Pleasant, SC, and continues to discover different methods and mediums.

Hepburn comments on her work: "I am searching for the light and shadows in my work. The flow of light will determine the composition. I do not see harsh lines between objects, they appear from the dark. The light helps me to journey back in time. When I draw I feel like I am traveling through space and time and as a final result I arrive to places I have been before. Therefore the two key elements in drawing will predict an atmosphere and create a mood in my work."
