Mepkin Abbey Near Moncks Corner, SC, Features Works by Susan Miller Simon

Myriad Wonders works by Susan Miller Simon, will be on display in the Book Room Gallery in the store and visitor's center at Mepkin Abbey in Moncks Corner, SC, from July 1 through Aug 30, 2004.

Various traditions and movements in art history have influenced Simon's compositions. Her diverse interests include cave art, natural formations and above all Byzantine manuscripts and altarpieces. She uses images of solitude and journeys as she creates personal icons in her works.

Simon says her "work attempts to put into poetic visual form my many thanks for everyday small wonders and my journey Home."

Numerous awards and honors have been given to Simon for her exhibitions in Aspen, Frankfurt, New Orleans and Taos. She is currently preparing for an exhibition in New Zealand. Simon maintains her studio in Evergreen, CO.

Mepkin Abbey's recently created intimate Book Room Gallery is an addition to the expanded store at the monastery. The store carries a wide range of religious art from a number of international sources.

Additionally the store has a collection of contemporary craft works. Over thirty potters from North and South Carolina are represented in the store. Weaving, art glass, woodcarving and other craft media are also for sale.

The Book Room Gallery is located in the Mepkin Abbey Store and visitor's center on the monastery grounds.
