Montreat College in Montreat, NC, Features Photographs by John A. Smith

Montreat College's Hamilton Gallery will exhibit the work of photographer John A. Smith of Hendersonville, NC, from July 1 through Aug. 12, 2004.

Smith's interest in photography began when he was fourteen years of age trying to take pictures of the moon by placing a camera over his home-built telescope. After high school, a part-time photography career turned into a full time career with the General Electric Company. Since leaving G.E., he has operated his own photo labs.

As a native of Western North Carolina, Smith's love of the mountains led him to begin taking landscape photos. "My goal was to capture the beauty and majesty of the Western North Carolina mountains on a printed piece of paper," states Smith.

The Hamilton Gallery, located in the L. Nelson Bell Library on the Montreat campus, is open to the public during normal summer operating hours of the library (Mon.-Fri., 8am-5pm).
