Redux Art Center in Charleston, SC, Offers Two Exhibitions During July

David West

After crowning David West of Columbia, SC, the Portrait Grand Champion of the World in June at the Portrait Knockdown 2004, the Redux Contemporary Art Center in Charleston, SC, will present two exhibitions in July, including The Summer Art Institute Exhibition, on view from July 2-6, 2004, and Bill Bolton: Deconstruction of a Painter, on view July 8 - 30, 2004.

The Summer Art Institute Exhibition will showcase artwork from 40 of Charleston County's most talented high school artists. These students have been through three weeks of intense college level training in painting, sculpture, and graphic design at the Redux facility, and this is their first professional exhibition.

The Summer Art Institute was an educational program presented during the month of June, 2004, in cooperation with the Charleston County School District and Redux Contemporary Art Center for high school students with talents in the visual arts.

After the Redux exhibit, the work will move to the Charleston Public Defenders Office as well as the new Charleston School of Law, where it will be on display throughout their facilities for the next year.

The exhibition, Bill Bolton: Deconstruction of a Painter, will follow The Summer Art Institute Exhibition, from July 8 - 30, 2004. A graduate of the College of Charleston, Bolton has been working intensely in the Redux studios since his graduation in 2002 and has found a voice among modern figurative artists. Bolton will continue figurative studies this fall at the New York Academy of Art, and this exhibition will be his farewell to Charleston.
