The Arts Council of Rock Hill and York County in Rock Hill, SC, Features Works by Its Studio Artists

The Arts Council of Rock Hill and York County will feature their seven resident studio artists in the Dalton Gallery at the Center for the Arts in Rock Hill, SC, from July 3 - 31, 2006. The exhibit includes works by: Wanda Steppe, Eileen Nichols, Jennifer Hamilton, Kathy Caudill, Elsa Turner, Janice Mueller, and Marie Aycock.

Wanda Steppe, a Rock Hill native, studied at Winthrop University and the Greenville County Museum School of Art. Her work has been exhibited nationally and is included in private and corporate collections. Steppe has received awards in juried exhibitions including the Triennial 2001 at the SC State Museum in Columbia.

Eileen Nichols has been painting for the past twenty years and occupied a studio at the Center for the Arts for the past twelve. She paints abstract landscapes on textured paper and also uses charcoal, collage and sand to achieve the look she wants. Nichols has won numerous awards including one for the South Carolina Watercolor Society Traveling Show in 2005.

Jennifer Hamilton's work has been exhibited statewide in South Carolina for the past fifteen years. She has also been profiled in Watercolor Magic and YC-York County Magazine in Oct. 2005. Hamilton has studied at Winthrop University and continues her studies as a monitor at Springmaid Beach Watermedia Workshops in Myrtle Beach, SC.

Kathy Caudill comes from a family of artists and has been one her whole life. She once worked in the commercial art field but has devoted her time for the past twenty-six years to painting and teaching others how to paint. Her work shows realistic portraits of landscapes and still life paintings in watercolor and oil. Caudill also authored the book Landscapes in Watercolor. She has received many awards including first place in 2000 for Best of Show at the Harvest of the Arts Juried Gallery Exhibition at the Dalton Gallery.

Elsa Turner was featured at the Dalton Gallery in Feb. 2006. Her work has been displayed throughout South Carolina and is also featured in public and private collections nationwide, as well as in Canada and Asia. Turner is a member of the Leroy Springs Artists and a previous board member of the SC Arts Commission. Her work involves personal experience, intuition, media investigation and manipulation of natural and man-made materials.

Janice Mueller's paintings explore the relationship of the past and present. She uses contemporary colors and imbeds cultural symbols in layers of paint to evoke the feeling of an archeological dig. Her work has been shown throughout the United States and Europe.

Marie Aycock attended Winthrop University where she majored in Visual Arts. Her artistic endeavors in Rock Hill include custom picture framing, writing advertisements, and organizing youth activities. Aycock has also won numerous awards for her outstanding talents.
