July Issue 2006

modern eye gallery in Charlotte, NC, Features Works by Angelo Franco

modern eye gallery in Charlotte, NC, proudly introduces New York artist, Angelo Franco, to its stable of artists in his debut show, Floral Pointillism, on view from July 7 - 31, 2006. The show is comprised of original oils on canvas.

Born in Ecuador, Franco moved to the United States when he was 19 years old. He has studied painting over thirty years, and studied four years under full merit scholarship and stipend at the prestigious Art Students League in New York City from 1976-1980. Franco's work is held in the Art Student League's permanent collection as well as many private and corporate collections across the country.

Franco's perspective comes from the subject in nature. As he states, "each new work is a serious search to convey the essence of a subject in nature." His expressive form is that of pointillism, which is a style of painting that dates back to the late 1800's. In pointillism, tiny dots of primary colors are mixed to generate secondary colors and when viewed from a distance the dots cannot be distinguished as they blend optically into each other.

Franco's work is imbued with color and texture. He further states, "I try to convey feeling and mood with simple compositions, shapes, and bold contrasting colors, whether the subject is a still life, landscape, or portrait".

In Floral Pointillism, small and medium floral and landscape works are showcased. Franco brings the flower to life through color and composition, compelling the viewer to gaze and become absorbed into the canvas. Although pointillism is generally more focused on style of brushwork used to apply the paint, Franco captures the viewer's heart through his canvases, and the focus becomes the sheer intensity and beauty of the subject.

In Franco's introduction show at modern eye gallery, the viewer will find a body of work that is painterly and beautiful to behold. Each piece inspires a new connection with the viewer through color, texture, and composition. We are thrilled to have Franco join our stable of artists and look forward to sharing his work with Charlotte.
