Artists Guild Gallery of Greenville Features Works by Ella McBee Cart in Greenville, SC

The Artists Guild Gallery of Greenville in Greenville, SC, will feature works by Ella McBee Cart, on view from July 1 - 31, 2008.

Cart originally hails from Spartanburg, SC, and has always been an artist. Her innate love of art emanates from her parents. Her father, the late Roy McBee Smith, was a noted lawyer and author in addition to being a respected painter. (His artwork can be viewed in the Greenville History Museum.) Her mother, Grace Jackson Smith was a watercolor and pastel artist.

As a child, Cart and her family would gather on the front porch where her father would discuss art. This was the genesis of her art education which later grew into a BA in Art from Columbia College. She also studied graduate studio work at the University of South Carolina and Converse College.

Cart is currently a mixed media artist who enjoys working in various mediums and styles. She is comfortable with abstraction and realism, often enjoying the challenge of combining the two. Her love of nature's beauty often manifests itself into her paintings as she weaves wildlife, flora and fauna into a myriad of patterns and shapes.

"My inspiration is to bring the natural form to a unique medium by concentrating on coastal wildlife and primitive landscapes," says Cart.

Cart is also well known for her oil and watercolor paintings. She has won numerous awards for both her oils and mixed media works. Cart presently splits her time between the Georgia Coast and the Carolina Mountains with her husband and two children.

The Artists Guild Gallery of Greenville is a co-operative gallery located in the heart of downtown Greenville. Over twenty five local artists are represented in the gallery along with various mediums including acrylic, mixed media, oil and watercolor paintings, jewelry, glass, woodwork and sculpture. One or more of the artists is in the gallery at all times, demonstrating throughout the day and always ready to discuss their art with visitors.
