Cheryl Newby Gallery in Pawleys Island, SC, Features Works by Mike Williams

The Cheryl Newby Gallery in Pawleys Island, SC, is featuring works of South Carolina artist Mike Williams during a special one-man exhibition of 15 paintings, on view through July 19, 2008.

Eighteen years after graduating from the University of South Carolina with a BFA in Studio Art, Williams has become one of the South's most acclaimed visual artists. An avid outdoorsman who grew up hunting and fishing, this Sumter, SC, native identifies with nature. He has managed to create a style that serves as a synthesis between the representational world of tradition and the emotional world explored by "modern" abstract painters. His predominant themes derive from nature and his love of the outdoors. His "fish paintings" have been described as metaphors for life. Williams and his art was recently the subject of an article written for Garden & Gun Magazine by Daniel Wallace, the author of the novel Big Fish.
