July Issue 2008

Lark & Key Gallery in Charlotte, NC, Features Group Exhibition

Lark & Key Gallery and Boutique in Charlotte, NC, will present the exhibit, Songcatcher: A Visual Interpretation of Sound, on view from July 4 through Aug. 30, 2008.

Songcatchers celebrate and record sound outside of a studio setting - collecting, teaching and promoting in order to preserve traditional forms of music. Lark & Key's first group show called upon artists to become song catchers in the visual sense. Thirty artists from around the country are offering art, pottery, jewelry - or whatever medium strikes a chord - celebrating the diversity of music and its creative influence on their work.

Artists participating in the exhibit are as diverse in their styles and mediums as their musical inspiration. Works include the narrative paintings of Duy Huynh, encaustics by Carl Linstrum, hand etched ceramics by Diana Fayt, mixed media drawings by Cara Ober, one-of-a-kind jewelry by Adorn and much more.

The exhibition also aims to expose viewers to a world of music they may not be aware of with each artist providing a cd of the song(s) that inspired them. The gallery will host a number of local bands and djs over the course of the show including Dirty Drummer and Volatile Baby.

A portion of sales will be donated to the Belmont Community Center YWCA Afterschool program in order to help fund art and music related education. Lark & Key will be working with the program director to provide supplies and schedule artists and/or musicians to work with the children and nurture their artistic spirits.
