Brookgreen Gardens in Murrells Inlet, SC, Features Cool Summer Evenings

Bring your own blanket or chair and enjoy live entertainment during Cool Summer Evenings on Wednesdays, Thursdays and Fridays, through Aug. 14, 2009, at Brookgreen Gardens in Murrells Inlet, SC. All live entertainment is included in the regular admission to the Gardens.

Wednesdays' schedule includes two plays written by the talented local playwright, Lori Lewis, and produced and directed by Brookgreen's Vice President of Development, Pat Tukey. A Carolina Pirate: Anne Bonney and Company, will be presented at 7pm in the Live Oak Allee on Wednesday evenings, through July 15, 2009. This play tells the story of the high-spirited adventures of pirates Anne Bonney, Mary Reed, and "Calico Jack" Rackham, who roamed the waters of present day Murrells Inlet.

On Wednesday evenings, July 22 through Aug. 12, 2009, the play, The Story of Alice Flagg will be presented at 7pm, also in the Live Oak Allee. Probably no ghost story or legend exists among these oaks as long-lived and tragic as the story of Alice Flagg. It is a tale of forbidden love, family secrets, and the social makeup of those who lived here more than 150 years ago.

On Thursdays, a Nature Walk at 4pm, followed by the popular evening animal program at 5pm, will give kids a chance to burn off energy just in time to settle down for the Story Hour at 6pm in the Wall Lowcountry Center Program Shed. There will be a series of guest story-tellers including Okefenokee Joe's tales about nature and conservation, Mike Walker's ghost stories, Lee Brockington's history of Eliza Pinckney and many others.

On Fridays, the Concert Series will be at 7pm in the Live Oak Allee. Javier Vega will return with a new group of musicians, Ipanema. Other performers on Friday evenings include the popular Vocal Edition, the steel drum band - Island Trio, the jazz band - Rivers & Company, and acoustic guitar players -Mark Shuler and Jeff Houts.
