Lark & Key Gallery in Charlotte, NC, Features Works by Jen Swearington & Jennifer Mecca

Lark & Key Gallery in Charlotte, NC, will present the exhibit, True Lineage, featuring works by Jen Swearington and Jennifer Mecca, on view July 1 26, 2009.

Jen Swearington

Jen Swearington has been drawing as long as she can remember and sewing since the sixth grade. Today Jen, also known as "Jennythreads", combines her love of both with her line of clothing and scarves as well as one-of-a-kind fine art quilts. The quilts are often inspired by books and movies, or simply glimpses of life around her. Sometimes autobiographical, they offer elements of nostalgia with juxtapositions that can be meaningful or random. Swearington takes this traditional art form and gives it a modern twist through the use of less traditional materials such as gold leaf and shellac.

Jennifer Mecca

Potter Jennifer Mecca spent many weekends as a child observing and participating in the traditions and rituals of her paternal Italian-American extended family. Among the most prevalent of these traditions was the preparation and serving of elaborate meals. This served as the foundation for her interest in utilitarian pottery and her love of creating elaborate surfaces and forms. Working primarily in porcelain, Mecca creates wheel thrown and altered forms that are organic in nature, giving them an added dimension through the use of her own fluid line drawings.
