Smith-Killian Fine Art in Charleston, SC, Features Photography by Tripp Smith

Smith Killian Fine Art Gallery in Charleston, SC, is proud to present its first photography exhibit by Tripp Smith entitled No Man's Land. The exhibit will be on view fromAug. 24 through Sept. 7, 2001.

Smith grew up in a family of artists with his mother being well-known artist Betty Anglin Smith, and his sisters, Shannon and Jennifer, also being respected artists. However, Tripp Smith's direction has been focused on the graphics of black and white photography. A graduate of the University of South Carolina with a degree in media arts, Smith has pursued a commercial career in free-lance architectural photography. He also shares the family reverence for the beauty of the Lowcountry and has directed his fine art photography toward the natural landscape.

In No Man's Land, Smith explores those undeveloped areas untouched by man. He hikes through virgin forests, swampy bottomlands, and among the barrier island dunes searching for that moment when light, atmosphere and nature come together to form that compelling image. Working in his darkroom, Smith will experiment with paper and process to develop the richness and contrast to push that image to a reality of emotional impact. His work is a statement advocating the protection of this landscape.

Smith Killian Fine Art recognizes the increased appreciation of photography as a fine art form and encourages the public to view this dramatic exhibition.
