Sam Doyle Saturdays Features a Self-Guided Tour of Artists' Studios Throughout the Beaufort, SC, Area

Sam Doyle Saturdays are a free, self-paced, driving tour of several artists' studios that happens on the second Saturday of each month, from 10am - 4:30pm, Aug. through Oct., 2003. The dates are Aug. 9, Sept. 13, and Oct. 11, 2003.

The tour, sponsored by Lily Joplin and the Arts Council of Beaufort Co., was inspired by the late Sam Doyle, an internationally known self-taught artist who was born, lived, and painted on St. Helena Island in SC, and would talk to anyone who stopped by his self-titled "Nationwide Outdoor Art Gallery".

This tour is a chance for everyone to visit the artists in their natural environment and see their work in the raw. Maps for the tour and information about the artists can be picked up at the Greater Beaufort Chamber of Commerce Visitors' Center on Carteret St. in Beaufort, SC, or the brand-new satellite visitors' center on Bay Street in the Verdier House in downtown Beaufort, or at the Lowcountry Visitors' Center in Point South, SC.

The artists featured on the tour include:

Eccentric, energetic, and extravagant, Lily Joplin, creates all sorts of stuff, including twisted tree snakes, funky furniture, and her striking signature windows.
