Hilton Head Art League Gallery in Hilton Head Island, SC, Offers Photography Exhibition

Photographers Ed Funk and Don Nelson have teamed up to put together an exhibition of their work entitled, Through the Lens, at the Hilton Head Art League Gallery. The gallery located in Pineland Station, on Hilton Head Island, SC, will be on view from Aug. 3 - 28, 2004.

Don Nelson

Don Nelson began taking photographs at the age of 8 and has continued to develop his skills, keeping up with the latest advances in technology. He conducts training sessions, teaching others how to use the new imaging-editing software, as well as sharing his knowledge of photography. He came to Hilton Head in 1997 from Long Island, NY and Avon, CT. His photographs have been winning recognition in art shows in the Cultural and Performing Arts Division of the Town of Oyster Bay, NY and the Locust Valley Art Show. Nelson is on the Artist Advisory Council of the Hilton Head Art League and is active with the Camera Club of Hilton Head, the Society of Bluffton Artists and the Computer Club of HH.

Ed Funk

Ed Funk, who retired after 37 years in the Graphic Arts industry, has been spending his time shooting pictures of wildlife and nature scenes. His career with Sun Chemical, a manufacturer of printing inks and organic pigments, included the positions of VP of Research and Development and VP of Sales and Marketing. He holds a BS degree in chemistry, an MS and PhD degrees in chemical engineering and polymer chemistry. On Hilton Head Island since 2000, his work has been recognized in numerous newspaper and magazine articles. In 2002, he and his wife Kathryn started a small photographic services company. He has had one-man shows at the Beaufort Art Association Gallery and Pluff Mudd Gallery in Bluffton, SC. He is a member of the Beaufort County Chamber of Commerce, the Beaufort Art Association, the Hilton Head Art League, the Society of Bluffton Artists, the Hilton Head Camera Club and the Civil War Roundtable.

Don Nelson is a regular contributor to the Camera Club newsletter and has started the "Digital Imaging Group" teaching Photoshop Elements 2 and Photoshop CS to members of the Camera Club and at the Hilton Head Art Academy.

Says Nelson, "To me photography is an art of observation and discovery, finding something of interest for everyone to enjoy." So be sure to come to the Hilton Head Art League Gallery in Pineland Station to enjoy the fine photography produced by these two friends who just happen to be outstanding photographers.

The Hilton Head Art League is a not-for-profit membership organization dedicated to promoting the visual arts in the community and enhancing the art skills of its members. Since its creation in 1972, the League has brought art events to the town, provided scholarships to high school graduates pursuing a career in the visual arts and held art classes and workshops for residents and tourists alike. It operates a full-time gallery in Pineland Station that shows and sells the work of its member artists.
