Tessera Gallery in Winston-Salem, NC, Features Works by Natalie George and Nicole Arnold

The Tessera Gallery in Winston-Salem, NC, will be presenting exhibitions by two local artists from Aug. 6 - 31, 2004. The exhibits include, Vignettes: Still Life Paintings on Paper, featuring works by Natalie George and Landscapes and Florals, featuring works by Nicole Arnold.

"We are so pleased to have Natalie and Nicole featured together in this upcoming show," say Russell Scott, co-owner of Tessera Gallery. "I think visitors will be intrigued by the detailed work of Natalie's still life watercolors next to Nicole's more impressionistic pastels. Both artists have the exceptional ability to capture light, textures and color in their work, especially in everyday objects or landscapes that we often take for granted."

George was born in Scotland Neck, NC, and currently resides in Greensboro, NC. She is a graduate from Guilford College, where she studied visual art with a concentration in painting. George has exhibited in various museums, galleries, institutions and arts festivals across North and South Carolina, including the Fayetteville Museum of Arts's Annual Competition for North Carolina Artists, the Atalaya Arts and Crafts Festival and the Moore County Arts Festival. Her work has most recently been seen at TwoArtChicks Gallery in Greensboro.

"My work explores the energy and beauty of the realistic image. Daylight lends a softness to all objects, glass refracts it brilliantly and the natural object is celebrated in its simplicity and complexity," George says of her work that will be on display at the gallery.

A native of Charlotte, NC, Nicole Arnold currently resides in High Point, NC, where she is active in organizations such as the Women's Artist League of High Point and the Theatre Art Galleries. Arnold is a graduate of Duke University, where she studied extensively with Ginna Davidson. Her work has been features in various North Carolina galleries, institutions and alternative spaces. In addition, Arnold illustrated the children's picture book, The Reel Thing, published in 2002. She is currently teaching fine art at the Sawtooth Center for Visual Art in Winston-Salem.

Regarding the work to be shown at the gallery, Arnold says, "These works are studies primarily of my favorite old haunts from my beloved home state and other places I have traveled. The paintings feature the North Carolina Outer Banks and mountains as well as scenes from France and Spain. My short pastel strokes portray the dynamic and rhythmic nature of the ever-changing, living landscape."
