Tryon Painters & Sculptors in Tryon, NC, Features Works by Teachers

Tryon Painters & Sculptors in Tryon, NC, will present the exhibit, TPS Teachers, featuring works by Bill Ryan, Susan Ruby, Dick Neff, Verlie Murphy, Richard Seaman, Nancy Heim and Linda Seagrove. The exhibit will be on view from Aug. 11 through Sept. 1, 2007, in Gallery 1 at the Tryon Fine Art Center.

Linda Seagrove

We are so proud to introduce some of our new instructors, as well as, appreciate those who have been with us for a long time. This exhibit will feature our two current sculpture teachers Nancy Heim and Linda Seagrove, both excellent artists and very inspiring to us all. Seagrove is a clay artist who creates a wide range of interesting clay items. She offers Goddesses, mermaids, whimsical cats and chalices. You can also find functional works such as plates, hor doeurve plates and bowls. For the past two years Seagrove has worked with the 21st Century Builders Club with grades K-5. A member of Your Arts Desire Gallery in Saluda, NC, Seagrove's work can also be found throughout the Carolinas.

We will also be showing the paintings of Bill Ryan both watercolor and oil, the encaustic (wax) paintings of Verlie Murphy, both Saluda artists. Ryan has recently exhibited at the Saluda Senior Center and has taught for TPS for many, many years. Murphy is joining friends to open a new gallery in Saluda. A newcomer to the south her work can be found in private and corporate collection throughout the US , as well as, England, Chech Republic and British Columbia. Coming to us from Michigan, and a graduate of Kendall College of Art & Design, Grand Rapids, MI, Murphy a former gallery owner is hearing-impaired and loves to work with the physically and mentally challenged to enrich their lives through art. Her objective in her art is to activate the viewer's imagination through hidden objects.

Susan Ruby's formal training in art began as a child attending classes at the Toledo Museum of Art and culminated in her undergraduate and graduate studies at Ohio State University in drawing, painting and graphics. Ruby holds a Bachelor of Arts, major in Fine Arts, from Ohio State, and was a teaching assistant there while in the Masters program. Prior to moving to South Carolina in 2002, she was a long-time resident of Santa Barbara, CA. She currently resides part-time in Virginia, where she is associated with the Alexandria Art League. Ruby's recent work has focused on figurative and still life pieces produced in watercolor and mixed media. The impressionistic style involves simplifying shapes and the use of color in design and also expressing mood.

Dick Neff who was recently featured in Gallery Too of TPS is a pastel painter and an excellent artist to instruct in his medium. Neff an ex ad agency head, was always creative. Though an art Major in school, the professionals he dealt with in business were intimidating so he tucked his talents under the proverbial bushel. In retirement, Neff has rediscovered his latent abilities. His art has come back but alas, his golf is still elusive.

Richard Seaman

Last, but not least, we will be showing the awesome oil paintings of Richard Seaman who comes to us from the Detroit area where he studied at the College for Creative Studies. While he was attending there he met Rich Nelson one of his professors. Upon completion of his degree Seaman was invited by Nelson and his family to come and stay with them in Tryon (Rich Nelson coordinates all our classes). Seaman has launched yet another venture in his career by taking the opportunity to study at The Florence Academy of Art in Florence, Italy. We wish him much success in Europe and are looking forward to his return with great excitement. We will 'experience' a little of Europe through his next series of classes.
