North Carolina Arboretum in Asheville, NC, Features Annual Quilt Show

The Asheville Quilt Guild will host the 26th Annual Quilt Show, from Aug. 1 - 3, 2008, at The North Carolina Arboretum in Asheville, NC. The theme for this year's show, Piece for Peace, reflects the work of the many Guild members who make quilts for community service groups. These quilts are frequently constructed by piecing together patches of fabric in the hope that the resulting quilts bring peace to the recipients through feelings of comfort, warmth and love.

The show features over 250 quilts from guild members and other regional and national artists, and judges will award prizes in excess of $7,000 to winners in 13 categories. This year's opportunity quilt is Radiate Peace, designed by Robin Brooks, a member of the Asheville Quilt Guild and the Southern Highlands Craft Guild, and quilted by Asheville Quilt Guild member Brian Fackler. Vendors of fabric, sewing machines, thread, tools, thimbles and more will be on hand for shoppers. Other activities include quilting demonstrations and a silent auction of small quilts, the proceeds of which will benefit the Guild's scholarship program.

Hours for the show are 9am-5pm on Fri. and Sat., and 10am-5pm on Sun. The fee for the show is $4 per person, and Arboretum parking is $5 during this event only.

The Asheville Quilt Guild features a permanent, rotating quilt exhibit at The North Carolina Arboretum's Education Center. Visitors can also enjoy the Arboretum's Quilt Garden year-round, with plantings and patterns that change with the seasons.
