August Issue 2009

Somerhill Gallery in Durham, NC, Features Group Exhibition

Somerhill Gallery, located in The Venable Center in Durham, NC, is presenting the exhibit, Light & Shadow: A Group Exhibition, featuring works by selected Somerhill Gallery artists, on view through Aug. 28, 2009. The exhibition explores the fluctuating boundaries between dark and light.

The current Somerhill artists to be featured in this exhibition are: Peter Butler, Fran Dropkin, Michael Dubina, Tim Ford, Ellen Giamportone, Steve Hessler, Janette Hopper, Barry Roal Carlsen, and Julyan Davis. The gallery is proud to introduce some artists new to the constituency: Drew Deane, Bruce Mitchell, Eric McRay, David Young, Rick Smith, Christine Shockley.

The exhibition will highlight artists who work in a variety of subject matter; from Fran Dropkin's paintings of light, color and textures at the shore, to Eric McRay's exploration of landscapes and scenes that engage the senses, to Michael Dubina's expansive landscapes with low horizons, as well as Ellen Giamportone's photographs, that in her words "investigate night and darkness as mines for psychological and poetic excavation."

All the works will allow viewers to contemplate the boundaries and divergence of light and shadow, as well as the blending and marriage of the two as they come together.
