Spartanburg County Public Libraries in Spartanburg, SC, Offers First Juried Exhibit

The Spartanburg County Public Libraries in Spartanburg, SC, will present 1st Annual Juried Exhibition, on view at the AT&T Exhibition Lobby in the Headquarters Library, from Aug. 5 through Sept. 27, 2013. A reception and awards presentation will be held on Aug. 24, from 7-9pm.

This exhibition will feature both professional and amateur artists from Spartanburg and the surrounding counties. This juried event was open to all artists, 18 and over, professional or amateur, who reside in Spartanburg County (SC), Cherokee County (SC), Laurens County (SC), Union County (SC), Greenville County (SC), Rutherford County (NC), and Polk County (NC).

Will South, Chief Curator for The Columbia Museum of Art located in Columbia, SC, served as juror for this year’s exhibition. South received his doctorate in art history from the Graduate Center of the City University of New York in 1994, specializing in early modern American art. This past year he was responsible for organizing the hugely successful CMA exhibition, “Mark Rothko in the 1940s: The Decisive Decade” and “Impressionism from Monet to Matisse.” He is currently working on a show focused on Georgia O’Keeffe’s time in Columbia. There will be over $2500.00 worth of cash and purchase awards available to participating artists chosen by this year’s juror.
