Piedmont Land Conservancy & Dottie Milligan Team up at GAL Gallery in Greensboro, NC

The Greensboro Artists' League (GAL) and the Piedmont Land Conservancy are presenting an exhibition to raise environmental awareness that includes a series of photographs from the Land Conservancy's collection entitled The Land and Its People, which includes photographs by Virginia Weiler and Gary Carter, along with a group of paintings from Dottie Milligan's Vanishing Landscape series. The exhibition will be held in the GAL gallery in the Greensboro Cultural Center in Greensboro, NC, through Sept. 29, 2002.

The Piedmont Land Conservancy was established in 1990 to protect natural and scenic lands, farms, and open space in Piedmont, NC, to enrich the quality of life for communities and future generations. The Conservancy's goal is to balance environmental protection with economic development. "The Land and Its People is a traveling exhibit of photography of their protected lands, their natural features and the stories of the people who have worked to conserve these lands. The photo exhibit will include up to 45 framed images, taken over a year's time, capturing the seasonal beauty of the region.

Dottie Milligan is a Greensboro artist who has spent the past two years painting landscapes at the deserted Knight family farm on Old Oak Ridge Road. The farm will soon be paved over as a part of Painter Boulevard, the planned 40 mile loop around Greensboro. The series, entitled The Vanishing Landscape, is an attempt to capture the beauty of the land before it disappears, thus ensuring that it will never be forgotten. Milligan is a natural choice for inclusion in this exhibition as she has often focused on environmental issues in her work by highlighting the natural beauty of our surrounding environment.

The Piedmont Land Conservancy is a grassroots, non-profit land trust and is not affiliated with any other organization. Support comes entirely from members and friends in the Piedmont.
