12th Annual Art In The Park is Coming to Greenville, SC

Upstate Visual Art's Art in the Park returns to Greenville, SC, on Sept. 20 & 21, 2003. It will be the twelfth year for one of the finest outdoor exhibitions and sales of visual art in the region. Held on the campus of the SC Governors School for the Arts and Humanities in downtown Greenville, the event is free to the public, and approximately 10,000 visitors are expected.

The Governor's School overlooks Greenville's Reedy River Park in downtown Greenville's Historic West End. The campus architecture provides a village atmosphere as visitors wander from booth to booth through the courtyard. Ample parking is available at County Square next to the school campus.

In addition to talented individual artists from all over the Southeast exhibiting works in their own booths, Art In The Park has several unique features. One is the huge Upstate Visual Arts Member Exhibition and Juried Show. Under a large gallery-style tent are exhibited original works by members of Upstate Visual Arts. Around 200 of the artist members exhibit works in all mediums - painting, drawing, photography, pottery, jewelry, fiber, and more. Most works are available for purchase. This exhibit is very popular with art lovers and art patrons!

Approximately 60 of the artworks submitted for the UVA Member Exhibition will be chosen by three qualified jurors to comprise the juried show. The jurors will award $6000 in prize money to the top artworks. This exhibition is on display and works are available for purchase throughout the festival in the indoor Lipscomb Visual Arts Gallery at the Governor's School.

Another of the most popular tents at Art in the Park houses the Children's Activities. Hands-on children's art activities will be going on throughout the weekend. Led by a creative group of volunteers, most of the projects are free. Children can create their own "masterpieces" to take home.

Invited area visual arts organizations also exhibit works and demonstrate in mediums including basketmaking, painting, woodworking and computer art.

Art in the Park is produced by Upstate Visual Arts in cooperation with the Greenville Parks and Recreation Department, and is hosted by the SC Governors School for the Arts and Humanities.

Festival hours are 10am-6pm Sat. and 12noon-5pm Sun.
