Grovewood Gallery in Asheville, NC, Holds Fundraiser for Craft Emergency Relief Fund During September 2003

Thousands of people come every year to Groovewood Gallery to admire the craftsmanship, the artistry, and the beautiful materials that go into the work they display. The wonderful pieces that the public sees on exhibit here, and in galleries across the nation, are the product of a lot of hard work, personal investment, and risk.

A crafts business is by nature, a small business, in which the rewards are the creative and satisfying work and being one's own boss. However, they are offset by a small budget, a modest income and often a considerable amount of personal debt. An unexpected injury, an illness, a studio fire or theft can quickly put craftspeople out of business and even into bankruptcy unless help is available to get them back in business as quickly as possible.

CERF (the Craft Emergency Relief Fund) provides that help, in the form of interest-free loans, booth-fee waivers at craft shows, discounts from suppliers, marketing assistance, and advice and referrals. Each year, Grovewood Gallery in Asheville, NC, hosts a special fund-raiser for CERF. This year, during the month of September, 2003, the gallery will be donating a percentage of its profits to CERF. The gallery will also hold a raffle for a $750 wind sculpture, generously donated by artist Lyman Whitaker. Raffle tickets will sell for $5 apiece, starting Sept. 1, with the drawing on Sept. 30, 2003.

Come show your support for the fine craftspeople, who keep the craft tradition of human hands and human hearts alive in the age of the machine and mass-production.
