Sunset River Marketplace in Calabash, NC, Offers Works by David McCune

Works by David M. McCune, Sr. will be featured in the exhibition, Images In Metal, at Sunset River Marketplace in Calabash, NC. The exhibit of new wall art pieces, furniture and sculpture - all created from metal - will be on view from Sept. 1 - 30, 2003.

The story of how David McCune became one of the area's most popular artists is an amazing one. At the young age of 20, after studying Biology at Methodist College in Fayetteville, NC, he started his own business in a one-bedroom apartment and a $35 advertising budget. That has evolved into McCune Technology's 60,000 square foot steel fabrication facility located in the Cumberland County Industrial Center. The million dollar corporation, with McCune as CEO, boasts a client roster that includes Black & Decker, Monsanto, DuPont and Converse among others.

Despite meeting the demands of a full-time, successful business, McCune's artistic and creative abilities have drawn an enormous amount of attention in the Carolinas. He has been working as a professional artist for over 12 years. His media includes metal sculpture and wall art, watercolors, photography, jewelry, custom furniture and the list goes on. McCune is currently writing a novel, too.

At Sunset River Marketplace, McCune's work has been a favorite with visitors since the gallery opened its doors in June of 2002. When Sunset River hosted a fund-raiser for Hope Harbor women's shelter, the metal sun donated by McCune was one of the most popular pieces.

McCune, who lives on the island at Ocean Isle Beach, is one of 150 artists represented at Sunset River. In over 10,000 square feet of space, the gallery showcases only artists from North and South Carolina. In addition to metalworks, the art on display includes oil paintings, watercolor, acrylics, hand-blown glass, wood works, jewelry, pottery, sculpture, photography and more.
