Hilton Head Art League on Hilton Head Island, SC, Features Works by Virginia MacKenzie

From Sept. 27 through Oct. 22, 2005, the Hilton Head Art League Gallery in Pineland Station on Hilton Head Island, SC, will be the site of Dr. Virginia MacKenzie's Oriental Express, a collection of Chinese brush paintings on a variety of media. She paints on watercolor paper, coffee filters, silk and ceramics, to name just a few.

Dr. MacKenzie was born and raised in Orlando, FL. She is a graduate of Trinity University in Washington, DC, and holds a PhD from the University of Buffalo Graduate School of Management. She was a member of the Political Science faculty of Nazareth College in Rochester, NY, and is a retired Executive Supervisor for Marriott Vacation Club International.

MacKenzie began her art studies with calligraphy and Oriental brush painting around 1990, having studied with well known calligraphers and painters like Reggie Ezell of Chicago and Dr. Ning Yeh at UCLA. She has also studied pastels and watercolor with local artists like g.a. Sheller, Joyce Nagel, Uschi Niner, Mary Kelly, and nationally renowned art instructors like Alan Flattman, Susan Sarback and Christina Debarry.

MacKenzie's art can be found locally at the Hilton Head Art League Gallery, the Pink House Gallery, the Calhoun Street Gallery in Bluffton, SC and the Gallery on Main in Brevard, NC.

"It's such a rush when someone is moved by my work and they want it for their private collection," says MacKenzie. "A painting is a success when it is beautiful and it evokes emotion."

The Hilton Head Art League is a not-for-profit membership organization dedicated to promoting the visual arts in the community and increasing the art skills of its members. For more than 30 years, the Art League has brought together members of the art community, artists and art lovers alike, and showcased the work of its members.
