Richard James Galleries in Charleston, SC, Features Works by Joan A. Davis and Bobbie Gentry

Works by local artist Joan A. Davis and Texas sculptor Bobbie Gentry will be on view from Sept. 16 through Oct. 5, 2005, at the Richard James Galleries in historic downtown Charleston, SC.

Davis, best known for her landscapes, speaks of herself as a colorist of painterly impressionistic style. She attempts to bring forth the most potent image possible through color harmony and invention. With numerous awards and an abundance of subject matter from Italy, France and the Carolina low country, she continues to be a collector's favorite. Since joining the Richard James Galleries, Davis' works have joined the collections of visitors from California to England.

Bobby Gentry, creates figures in the classical tradition. Working in bronze and terra cotta, her work creates emotion through body language and composition. Gentry's sculpture has been dubbed romantic, engaging in rich form of dance and rhythm. For years she has been a main stay at the gallery, however, this will be her first opening in Charleston.
