Hilton Head Island and Bluffton, SC, Offer Art Weekend on Sept. 21 & 22, 2007

The Autumn Arts Weekend is an arts destination weekend that is unlike any other. It includes a two-day visual arts event called Art Around Town, and A Taste of the Musical Season, a musical event.

Twenty-one art galleries will welcome visitors and residents on Sept 21 & 22, 2007. The galleries will be showing art by our very talented local artists, as well as nationally and internationally recognized artists.

Galleries will be open from 10am till 5pm both days. Since the galleries are scattered around the Island and neighboring Bluffton, a special map has been created showing the location of each of the galleries, along with information about their showings and hours. This brochure is worth saving because you will want to come back again and again.

All of the galleries will be serving refreshments for this very special Autumn Arts Weekend. In addition, visitors will be able to draw a ticket at each of the galleries where they may be the lucky recipients of a gift certificate valued at $50 for use this weekend, or whenever.

Ed Griffith

There are also 21 opportunities to find the one and only lucky number that may be waiting for you in any one of the galleries. Draw this number and you may win a pre-selected original work of art valued at over $500. The selected painting is by Ed Griffith and is titled Crabbers Camp. It will be on display at the Morris and Whiteside Gallery during the event. This gem of a painting, which the artist paints while on his sailboat, is a scene of waterfront property and boats. It is definitely a fine work of art that someone may be lucky enough to win. No purchases are necessary just a visit to the participating galleries and drawing a number out of a bowl. What could be easier or more fun?

This is the first Art Around Town that is sure to become an annual event. It's an opportunity to get to know the galleries and the work they show, enjoy refreshments and mingle with other art lovers, get to meet many of the exhibiting artists, learn more about the variety of art forms that are available and, perhaps, be the lucky recipient of a gift certificate or a beautiful piece of original art. A truly exciting way to kick off the Fall season.

The galleries are presenting fine art paintings in oils, pastels, acrylics, gouache, watercolors, fabrics and fibers. Outstanding photography, drawings, notecards, postcards, prints and more will be on display. Be sure to see the beautifully crafted jewelry, baskets, wood carvings, sculpture and decorative glass, too.

Price points are as varied as the art forms. From just a few dollars for notecards to the work of renowned artists that sells for several thousand dollars. Among the nationally known artists are Pino, Dan McCaw and Wyland. Local artists like Don and Joyce Nagel, Barb Snow, Jo Dye and Doris Shay, Ted Jordan, Jacob Preston, Louanne LaRoche, to name just a few. So much artwork to see. So many artists to discover.

"Hilton Head Island and Bluffton are really art-towns," says Terry Brennan, President of the Art League of Hilton Head. "With so many talented resident artists, plus the connections our galleries have established with nationally renowned artists, the selection of art available is phenomenal. It's definitely The place to come for fine art."

Whether your passion is music or art, don't miss the Autumn Arts Weekend on Hilton Head Island and Bluffton. Art buffs will love Art Around Town. Entry to all of the galleries is free. No tickets required. No purchase is required to draw a number for the possibility to win a gift certificate or to be the lucky winner of a $500 piece of original art.

Music lovers will enjoy Taste of the Musical Season. Tickets for this music event are available at the door at First Presbyterian Church and will feature some of the region's best choruses, bands and theater groups all for only $10 a ticket.

Art Around Town, sponsored by the Chamber of Commerce and participating galleries, was developed by the Chamber's Arts and Culture Committee with supporting grants from the towns of Hilton Head Island and Bluffton.
